Yeah I think it depends on the server you use... basically we spend a lot on food compared to rest of world. We are rich. Here's a couple of comparable stats... 80% of the world lives on $10 a day or less. 50% of the world lives on $2 a day or less. And 1/4 of the world lives on less than a $1 a day.
These photos are taken from the book "Hungry Planet: What the World Eats" by Peter Menzel and Faith D'Alusio. It was published in 2005. Beautiful and an interesting read, I highly recommend it. Makes a great coffee table conversation piece.
i like how even the family who spends $1.23 on food is smiling. what's that tell you? another thing i noticed was all the soda in the photos, particularly in the US, in Germany and Mexico.
